As we now enter another exciting AFL finals series, it’s amazing to reflect how much the great Australian game has become part of the Australian ‘brand’. For example, in Shanghai last year, when Melbourne played the Brisbane Lions in an exhibition game for the Shanghai Expo, the exploits of the exciting young indigenous footballer Liam Jurrah, impressed the owners of Russian software company Kaspersky so much, that they were very happy that they’d signed up as the club’s major sponsor and as the backer of the Kaspersky Cup. China Overtakes UK as the Largest Contributor to Immigration in Australia
For the first time in its history, Australia has accepted more Chinese than British migrants in any one year. Australia accepted 29,547 migrants from China between 30 June 2010 and 30 June 2011, while UK immigrants amounted to a total of 23,931 during the same period. The reason for this surge in Chinese immigration is undoubtedly Australia’s mining and energy boom and Australian business’s continued high demand for skilled and semi-skilled workers. China has urged Australia to address its shortage of skilled labour to enable Chinese businesses to maximise its investments in the country. One of the ways that Australia is able to do so is through its migration programs, including skilled worker and skilled migration pathways. read more

Business Forum held its fourth year of Australia-China BusinessWeek now the
major national annual Sino-Australia business event. On 3-4 August 2011
at Crown Melbourne, over 600 participants including sponsors such as the
Institute of Public Accountants, Shangri-La, China Eastern and Servcorp,
attended the two day of event including a forum. This high-profile business
event showcased and explored the unique business, investment and trade
opportunities for companies looking to enter or increase their presence in
